What Are PDO Mono Threads

What are PDO mono threads?

A PDO mono thread is a temporary cosmetic procedure that specialises in tightening and uplifting your skin. Originally popular in Korea, PDO mono threads have taken the world by storm. This procedure is done without fillers and invasive surgery, making it a popular alternative to traditional cosmetic surgery.

How do PDO mono threads work? Well, referred to as a ‘mini facelift’, the treatment works by injecting a thread of polydioxanone (PDO) under the skin, usually in the face. Medical grade threads made from the protein Polydioxanone (PDO) are thinner than a strand of hair and more durable than cotton threads. When compared to traditional surgeries that require heavy sedation, this procedure works in a more non-invasive manner. The surgeon uses micro-needles to connect the thread through your skin’s tissue, they then tighten it to give that refreshed look. Micro-needles are small, thin needles that can break through the skin without leaving behind heavy scarring. Thankfully, before the micro-needles are injected into your face, you will be given a topical anaesthetic to reduce discomfort. The surgeon will then inject a range of needles and dissolvable suture threads right above the layer of fatty tissue in your face and/or neck. The threads are then lifted to tighten the skin, improving collagen production, and eliminating signs of ageing in and around the facial region.

Over a period of eight to twelve months, the PDO mono thread dissolves entirely within the body leaving behind stronger, rejuvenated skin. It usually takes two to four months to see the full effects, but initial results can be noticeable after just four weeks. It’s best to get the treatment done at least once a year to maintain the full effect. Develop your knowledge and book your own PDO Mono Thread Workshop with CPD Institute.

What are the benefits of PDO Mono Threads?

There are a lot of benefits to PDO mono threads. They can tighten and thicken the skin, improve skin texture, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. When the sutures dissolve, they stimulate your skin, improving natural collagen production. As collagen is one of the vital parts of keeping your skin healthy, this increased production level can have positive long term effects. But that’s not all.

What is the aftercare from a PDO Mono Thread?

Making sure you’re fully informed about the aftercare requirements is a must. So we’re going to take you through the best steps to take post-op.

Though there is a minimal recovery time of a few days, we suggest that up to 1-2 weeks following your treatment should be spent:

  • Without exercise. You may engage in some brisk walking but nothing too vigorous.
  • Without makeup (first 48h only). Yes, that includes any form of skincare products, sorry!
  • Without washing your face (first 48h only).
  • Taking a full course of antibiotics to fight off any chance of infection. It’s also suggested to stop taking vitamins or medications that can have blood-thinning side effects.
  • Avoiding smoking and/or consuming alcohol.
  • Avoiding heavy fluctuations in temperature. Allow the skin to heal in a neutral environment.
  • Going to your follow up appointments to ensure everything is healing as expected.

In the days following the procedure, you may experience some swelling, bruising and discomfort around the area. This is a normal part of the healing process.
Please note: each person will have their own experiences with aftercare. We’ve curated the most helpful tips, but please discuss them with your surgeon and decide what’s best for you.

Do Mono threads work on the neck?

Yes, mono thread treatments aren’t exclusively for the face. You can also get the procedure on your neck. PDO mono thread neck treatments can be used to treat creasing and folding surrounding the chin and neck. While it’s not as easily noticeable as other procedures, a neck mono thread can focus on those hard to get areas such as marionette lines, sagging cheeks, and ageing jawlines. When it comes to the neck, it can take the body up to 12 months to fully dissolve. But, it also depends on how fast your skin breaks down temporary sutures.

Do Mono threads work under the eyes?

Yes, PDO mono threads under the eyes are a more natural alternative to eyelifts, for those who want a less invasive, rejuvenated look. This procedure involves inserting threads near the undereye and eyebrows to lift and tighten the skin. It can also be used to lift the eyes, cheeks, loose jowls, tighten the neck, and reduce wrinkles around the eyes. Results should appear within 1-2 months of treatment and can last for up to two years.

Can PDO threads help nasolabial folds?

Nasolabial folds are the smile lines that occur around the mouth. They usually occur with age and extensive muscle usage. PDO mono thread nasolabial treatments work to even out the skin volume, revitalise collagen production, and produce a long-term skin rejuvenation. This is a key catalyst in the prevention of droopy chin skin, nasolabial lines, and vertical/ horizontal forehead wrinkles.
