What is Skin Needling?

Want to provide a skin treatment that reduces fine lines and wrinkles and improves skin texture and acne scarring? Looking for skin care courses that teach you how to perform skin needling? Also known as micro-needling or Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), skin needling is used to treat different skin conditions. Skin needling of the face uses a roller with microscopic needles to puncture the surface of the skin. This treatment stimulates the dermis of the skin without damaging the upper epidermal layer. It encourages the production of elastin and collagen, an essential protein that gives your skin a firm, smooth and youthful glow. As a result of the natural ageing process, collagen production declines. This results in the formation of fine lines, wrinkles, scarring and stretch marks.

Skin needling treatments can involve the following steps:

1. Thoroughly cleanse the treatment area of makeup, lotions, or other topical products.

2. Apply a topical numbing cream. In some cases, a local anesthetic can also be injected.

3. Once the treatment area is numb, the dermis layer of the skin is punctured using a handheld skin needling device. For ultimate results, the device is passed over the skin several times.

After skin needling treatments, your client will experience redness, swelling, dryness and peeling for several days. It’s very important to wear sun protection and to keep the skin hydrated during this time. Visible results from skin needling appear within 3 to 8 weeks of treatment. While the number of treatments varies from person to person, significant improvements are generally seen after 4 to 8 treatments.

CPD Institute of Australia advanced skin science course offers skin needling training for medical professionals, beauty therapists and cosmetic practitioners.

What are the benefits of Skin Needling?

Skin needling has been a popular treatment since the mid-1990s. Over the past few years, the benefits of skin needling the face have become even more widespread. This minimally invasive treatment improves the appearance of acne scars and reduces hyperpigmentation.

So, what does skin needling do? As a walk-in, walk-out treatment that requires minimal downtime, skin needling is a cost-effective treatment used for facial rejuvenation that most clients tolerate well. Unlike laser treatment, where the epidermis is damaged, skin needling treats the dermis layer of the skin. After only one treatment, the benefits of skin needling include the following.

1. Skin needling treats scars

After a skin needling treatment, elastin and collagen production is stimulated. This results in acne scars and other scars on your skin improving. Skin needling is not recommended for keloid scars (raised).

2. Skin needling reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Premature ageing of the face can be treated with skin needling. The micro injuries stimulate the wound healing mechanism in your body so new skin cells are produced. This results in a reduction in forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and frown lines.

3. Skin needling reduces skin pore size

After a skin needling treatment, the size of your skin pores will appear to be smaller. This is a result of the collagen around the pores being stimulated which adds volume and results in the in a diminished appearance.

4. Skin needling reduces sun damage

Hyperpigmentation, age spots and blotchy complexions can be improved after a skin needling treatment. When the collagen and elastin production is stimulated, your skin cells can even out and become more youthful looking.

5. Skin needling can improve the effectiveness of topical products

After a skin needling treatment, the skin is fully primed to apply anti-ageing serums, moisturisers, and other topical treatments. These topical products will be delivered deeper into your skin.

6. Skin needling can reduce rosacea

If you suffer from rosacea where the skin is ruddy and thick, skin needling can help. When collagen production is stimulated after a skin needling treatment, your skin will look less irritated and inflamed.

7. Skin needling has minimal side effects

Unlike laser treatments or chemical peels, skin needling required minimal downtime. Your face will look glowing and healthy 24-72 hours after your treatment, and you’ll be able to resume your everyday activities. Some laser treatments and chemical peels can require up to 2 weeks of downtime.

8. Skin needling can improve the appearance of acne

If you use topical applications for acne, they’ll be more effective after your skin needling treatment because the deeper layers of your skin are better able to receive them.

Who can perform Skin Needling?

After this workshop you’ll be able to provide skin needling, medical grade chemical peels and primary facials to your clients. Some of the content covered includes:

  • Skin anatomy and classification
  • Skin needling devices and how to perform the treatments
  • Theory and hands on practical training in medical grade chemical peels.

At the end of this 2-day workshop, you’ll receive a certificate that will allow you to immediately start treating your clients using the skills and techniques you’ve learned.
