Nutrient Therapies in the Aesthetic Setting

Course Overview:

This course comprises of 8 modules. Each module is between 1 – 1.5 hours duration. There will be a short quiz on completion of each module. Total course duration is 12 hours.

 

Module 1: The Foundations of Health and Longevity, The Gut Microbiome.

The aim of this module is to:

  • Introduce the link between aesthetic presentations and the foundational mechanisms that underly all chronic conditions; dysbiosis, inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, and neuroendocrine alterations.
  • Introduce the hallmarks of ageing and concept of inflammageing
  • Introduce the gut microbiome and what is believed to be a healthy gut microbial composition.
  • Provide an overview of the key microbial phyla and species involved in human health and longevity.
  • Introduce the expansive and crucial key roles of microbial metabolites in supporting human physiology.
  • Define the link between dysbiosis and disease states, with a focus on obesity and chronic conditions linked to dermatological manifestations.
  • Introduce prebiotics and probiotics as microbial modulators.
  • Introduce prebiotics and probiotics as microbial modulators.

 

Module 2: The Gut-Skin Axis; The Microbiome in Aesthetic Presentations.

The aim of this module is to:

  • Present the biological complexity of aesthetic presentations.
  • Introduce the link between diet, the microbiome and gut health.
  • Explore the molecular mechanisms by which microbial metabolites regulate gut wall integrity and initiate systemic signals to support distal organs.
  • Discuss how microbial metabolites communicate with the innate and adaptive immune systems to maintain immune tolerance throughout the body.
  • Explain the current understanding of the Gut-Skin Axis and how the microbiome supports skin homeostasis.
  • Present the link between dysbiosis, leaky gut, inflammation, and aesthetic presentations.
  • Detail the pathogenic role of endotoxin and specific microbial profiles in obesity as well as allergic, autoimmune, and inflammatory dermatological presentations.

The aim of this module is to:

  • Discuss the extent of nutrient deficiencies and how they relate to aesthetic signs and symptoms.
  • Define the epigenome and its key components.
  • Present the interaction between nutrients and the epigenome, and how this relates to health outcomes.
  • Introduce the concept of gene polymorphisms and their role in nutrient processing and availability.
  • Discuss the role of macronutrients, micronutrients, dietary compounds, and popular diets in shaping the microbiome.
  • Explain the ways in which the microbiome contributes to nutrient status.
  • Introduce autophagy, cellular senescence, telomere attrition and the dietary factors that regulate or influence these mechanisms.
  • Discuss how nutrient deficiencies and certain dietary compounds like lectins and dairy may be linked to aesthetic signs and symptoms.

  • Understand the many signals involved in the sensation of satiety and hunger and how these can be disrupted.
  • Discuss the past and current understanding of the Set-weight theory and how weight homeostasis is maintained.
  • Provide a detailed look at ghrelin, leptin and insulin, and the modifiable factors that regulate them.

  • Differentiate between adipose tissue subtypes; white, brown, beige, obese and lipedema fat.
